Impact Of G-20 Summit Still Being Felt Around Town

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The G-20 Summit has come and gone, but its impact is still being felt in town as businesses clean up and protesters face charges.

Police say one person may be responsible for causing as much as $25,000 in damages during the G-20 Summit.

Authorities say 21-year-old David Zapenga, from the state of California, was arrested around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Police say he is facing numerous charges.

"He broke up to an estimated 20 windows in the Oakland and Lawrenceville area. He also used… had phony ID being Eric Blair, which took us an even longer time to find out who he was," said Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper.

According to police, Japenga could face even more charges as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, in addition to the 110 arrests during a gathering in Oakland Friday night, Pittsburgh police say 83 people were arrested during the two day G-20 Summit.

Officers were also alerted to 10 suspicious packages, but all of them were determined to be harmless. Also, firefighters were called out to three small fires in dumpsters.

Police say up to $50,000 in damage was done to local businesses during the protesting.

However, police also said that there were 12 peaceful demonstrations during the summit in which no arrests occurred.
