New Castle Fires Being Called Arson

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The cause of two house fires in New Castle has been identified as arson.

The New Castle News reports two different house fires occurred, with both houses being vacant at the time of the fires.

Firemen say they were notified Sunday evening that a home in the 800 Court Street was on fire.

The same location had a fire on May 18.

The fire started in a first-floor room and quickly spread to the second floor.

Police say the building was not secured and no utilities were connected.

On June 2, the Code Enforcement department posted the house and ordered the owner, J.P. Morgan Chase Bank of San Diego, to demolish the property by July 7.

The second house fire, in the 800 block of Etna Street, burned June 18 at 10:30 p.m.

It began in the kitchen and spread to the second story, destroying much of the roof.

A fire had previously been reported at this site in April 2007.

This home was also not secured and was vacant.
