Oakland Fire Breaks Out After Building Inspections

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Authorities say they are concerned over the conditions of some buildings in Oakland after a fire broke out inside one of them this morning.

Police say the building is located on Parkview Avenue.

According to officials, the small fire, which reportedly broke out on the third floor of the building, was accidental. It was reportedly caused by stove that was left burning with a pot on top.

Investigators say during an inspection of the building yesterday, several violations were found.

Inspectors were back at the building this morning and that's when one of them detected the smell of smoke and the fire, officials report.

Everyone was able to get out safely. However, officials say not all the alarms in the building went off.

Authorities also say a fireman will be posted outside the building until 4 p.m. Saturday, which is also the deadline for the owner to bring the building up to code.

There are no reports of any injuries at this time. Meanwhile, the investigation continues.
