Clarion Co. Accident Leaves 3 Dead, Child Hurt

Fund Set Up To Help Matthews Family With Burial Expenses

BEAVER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― A head-on crash in Clarion County late Thursday night has left three people dead and a child injured.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. on Route 208 in Beaver Township.

According to state police, 47-year-old Dennis Bussell, of Clarion, was killed when his vehicle crossed over the center line and struck an oncoming car.

Officials say two people in the other car were also killed in the accident.

The driver of that vehicle has been identified by authorities as Esther Matthews, 73, of Knox, Clarion County. Police say her 13-year-old granddaughter, Grace Elliott, was also killed.

Elliott's one-year-old nephew, who was riding in a car seat when the crash happened, was injured and flown to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, local residents say they are saddened by the accident.

"Maybe that wouldn't have happened if this road would have been a 35 or 40 mile an hour. I feel very sad for the family," said Irving Renniger, who works near accident scene. "I hope someone does something before somebody's family experiences this."

A trust fund has been set up to help the family of two of the victims in the fatal accident with burial expenses:

Matthews Family Trust Fund
S & T Bank
650 Main St.
Clarion, PA 16214
