The Stanton Heights neighborhood where the fatal police shootings occurred is still reeling two days after the ordeal.
People are recounting what they witnessed and are trying to find a way to express their sorrow.
There is a stark contrast at 1016 Fairfield Street, the home at the center of the shootings that left three police officers dead.
There is a bullet battered home, but, on the front sidewalk, people have left flowers and teddy bears at a makeshift memorial to three fallen heroes.
"Our heart goes out to their families, our deepest sympathy," said one neighbor who didn't want to give her name. "I cannot even begin to imagine what their families are going through."
The woman watched as Officers Sciullo, Kelly and Mayhle died battling a deranged neighbor who had an assault weapon.
Three blue lights now adorn her window.
"It just takes a special type of person to be a police officer, and knowing that every time you step foot outside your house door, you may not come home to your family. It takes a special kind of person to do that," said the neighbor.
As the morning went on more flowers to the fallen were added.
Watching from across the street, another neighbor also witnessed the horror and heroism.
"I don't know what to say. We just loved them all. We loved them all. And they knew before that they put their life on the line every day when they go to work and this has just really brought it home," said Gail Moschetti.
There are three more blue lights in Moschetti's window.
She says everyone on the street is now bonded by what they witnessed.
