The man accused of gunning down three Pittsburgh police officers at his Stanton Heights home nearly two months ago was formally arraigned today.
Richard Poplawski is being held in the Allegheny County Jail for the April 4th shooting that claimed the lives of Pittsburgh Police Officers Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Scuillo II.
Police say Poplawski was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and a bulletproof vest when he killed the officers.
Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala had until today's formal arraignment to seek the death penalty in the case against Poplawski.
Zappala has already filed the paperwork to pursue the death penalty in the case.
Since Poplawski's arrest, Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey Manning issued a gag order, prohibiting police, investigators, attorneys and others involved in the case from discussing the case with the media.
Poplawski did not appear in court for today's arraignment.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Friday morning before Judge Manning.
