A church in Bloomfield wants to make sure three Pittsburgh Police officers killed in the line of duty are never forgotten.
Officers Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo, Jr., were killed April 4 in Stanton Heights during a standoff.
Sciullo was well-known and respected in his neighborhood, Bloomfield.
"People love his family and just broken-hearted, just a big hole in all of our hearts," Dennis Scullion, a distant cousin of Sciullo, said.
Sciullo was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Church. Since April, the church has been trying to raise money to erect a permanent memorial in honor of the fallen heroes.
"This dedication is really just our way of saying thank you to all of them because we call upon every day of our lives here in the city," Father John Dinello said.
The memorial includes a statue of St. Michael the Archangel and patron saint of police and would be located in front of the church on Liberty Avenue.
A police crest would also sit behind the statue on a platform.
"And when people see this, especially on this busy avenue, it'll make them stop and reflect how we're so thankful for everything these guys have given and others like them," Dinello said.
