Plane From Pgh. Makes Emergency Landing In Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KDKA) ― Two people suffered minor injuries after a charter plane on its way from Pittsburgh to Nevada made an emergency landing in Kansas Wednesday night.

Officials say the Allegiant Airlines plane was headed to Lockland, Nevada, when it stopped to refuel in Wichita, Kansas.

According to authorities, the plane had just left Wichita's airport when it experienced trouble with one of its two engines about 1,500 feet off the ground.

Two crew members managed to get the plane stabilized at about 4,000 feet and it returned to Wichita's airport.

"[The] air traffic control tower noticed that there was just some flames coming out of the left engine – the number one engine on the aircraft," said Victor White, of Wichita Airport Authority. "So, the airport fire department was on the scene at the time the aircraft stopped. They used extinguishing foam."

Two passengers reportedly suffered minor injuries while evacuating the plane on an emergency slide.
