Drug Sweep Nets More Than 30 Arrests

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Ten law enforcement agencies descended on eight local communities with warrants ready to round up those involved in the sale of illegal drugs.

Two years of investigations led to a warrant round up today in Donora, Monessen, Fayette City, Belle Vernon, Brownsville, Hiller and Charleroi, where Mayor Paterra is more than happy with the results.

"I would personally call it Operation Parasite Sweep because that's what drug dealers are a bunch of parasites," said Mayor Frank Paterra of Charleroi. "I'm very pleased that the operation is going on. It's been a long investigation and I'm very proud of the FBI, State Police, and our own fine police department."

The main focus of these warrant arrests was cocaine and crack cocaine.

Along with serving these warrants, law enforcement also seized several firearms, as well as, other illegal drugs.

"I think that unless we get a handle on illegal drug trafficking, it has the potential to destroy the fabric of our society. As long as I'm the Mayor of Charleroi, drug dealers have two choices: get out or go to jail," said Paterra.

Of the 61 warrants issued for today's sweep, state police say they have in 32 people in custody.
