Allegheny Co. Finds Many Drink Tax Payment Errors

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― Many liquor license holders have been making miscalculations and other errors when submitting payments for Allegheny County's new 10 percent drink tax.

The first returns for the taxes are due by the close of business today.

Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein says about $750,000 in drink tax revenue had been received from about 500 liquor license holders as of Friday.

But he says the treasury office is seeing errors in 25 to 30 percent of their payments.

The drink tax was approved last year to help pay for the county's $30 million subsidy of the Port Authority.
