Testimony Begins In Trial For Local Oral Surgeon

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A judge heard graphic testimony in the non-jury trial of a Mt. Lebanon oral surgeon accused of sexually assaulting 17 of his female patients.

Dr. Robert Boyda was known in Mt. Lebanon as the quarterback of the high school football team who went on to Harvard - long before this case made news.

But the testimony about what happened in the recovery room after tooth extractions at his offices paints a very different picture of him.

A woman who is a paralegal testified: "I was awakened by Dr. Boyda rubbing his (genitals) on my face. I woke up and I told him 'no.' He specifically said 'Shhh, it's OK.'"

A nurse who once worked for another oral surgeon testified she was awakened to the cold hand of Dr. Boyda on her chest.

"His hand was underneath my shirt and then up underneath my bra," she testified.

But defense attorney Bill Difenderfer said in his opening statement that the anesthetic Proprothol, which helps make sure patients are knocked out in surgery, can also cause vivid sexual dreams.

He challenged how the women could remember some elements of their experience and not other things.

Judge Anthony Mariani is expected to hear testimony for about two weeks.
