Cameras Get Sneak Peek Inside Rivers Casino

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― For the first time, the Rivers Casino opened its doors to the media to show off its progress as it prepares to open this summer.

The casino has 120,000 sq. ft. of slot floor space. The first of the 3,000 machines was ceremoniously put in place.

The casino is only 25 driving miles from the Meadows Casino in Washington County.

"I think that certain markets are still underserved and Pittsburgh being one of those markets," Greg Carlin, CEO of the casino, said.

"It's an entertainment facility, in addition to gaming we've got great restaurants, great bars, a really nice setting along the rivers so I think it adds to the city," Carlin said.

While the Meadows has gone after Mountaineer's Pennsylvania players, the folks at the Rivers plan a larger marketing arc.

"My sense is we'll go out at least a hundred miles, perhaps beyond that," Carlin said.

Casino officials say the parking garage will have 24-hour security.

Additionally, the casino plans to spend $34 million in payroll alone with 1,053 positions.
