Contractors Could Walk Off North Shore Casino Site

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― State senators asking questions about the rescue of a financially troubled Pittsburgh casino project found a more complicated situation than they thought.

The prime contractor on the Majestic Star casino told a Senate panel Thursday that dozens of subcontractors have the contractual right to quit the partially built project next week.

Daniel Keating, the chairman of Keating Building Corp. in Philadelphia, said he is concerned it could kill the project if they do.

Keating spoke during a four-hour hearing by the Senate's casino oversight committee.

The financial rescue is being spearheaded by billionaire real estate investor Neil Bluhm.

Committee chairwoman Sen. Jane Earll warned him that there's no way state gambling regulators can finish reviewing the proposed bailout before then.
