State Senators Weigh In On North Shore Casino

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Two state lawmakers say the State Gaming Control Board is gambling with Pittsburgh's future by rushing to approve a deal that would allow a Chicago billionaire to take over developer Don Barden's license for the city's North Shore casino.

Senator Jane Orie and Senator Jim Ferlo say the way the negotiations over the license are being handled right now is unethical.

Orie and Ferlo say they agree that the Gaming Control Board should reopen the process to award Pittsburgh's slots license.

"I think it's time for them to revoke the license. Mr. Barden, all due respect, is a day late and a dollar short," said State Sen. Ferlo. "They need to go back to square one."

"As much as I want to see the revenues come in, the reality of this situation is that it's unethical to proceed the way the board is proceeding," said State Sen. Orie.

Orie and Ferlo say the board should allow other interested parties to bid to take over Barden's license and negotiate to buy his partially completed casino.
