Man Hurt, Horse Killed In Mercer Co. Buggy Crash

HADLEY (AP) ― A man is in the hospital and his horse is dead after a car struck the back of his buggy on a Mercer County road and fled.

Twenty-two-year-old Erven Byler was ejected from his horse-drawn buggy early Monday after an unknown vehicle struck him from behind.

Police say Byler was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth's Trauma Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

Byler's condition was not immediately known.

Police say the horse was killed in the accident.

Police say the vehicle that fled would have likely sustained severe frontal and possible side and windshield damage.
