Surveillance Cameras Cast Doubt On Suspect's Story
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The stories don't match up.
The woman accused of killing a teenage girl and then stealing her baby told police one thing but video surveillance at the Allegheny County Jail tells a different story.
Andrea Curry-Demus remains at the Allegheny County Jail.
In a criminal complaint, she says she had never met the victim, 18 year-old Kia Johnson, before.
But it turns out, surveillance tape at the jail proves otherwise.
There are surveillance cameras both inside and outside the Allegheny County Jail and what cameras caught last week is in direct conflict with what Curry-Demus told police.
Curry-Femus says she had never met Johnson before.
Johnson was found dead in her apartment.
Instead, she says two other people brought a pregnant woman to her apartment Tuesday evening and then the baby was removed from the woman's abdomen and given to Curry-Demus.
In paperwork, however, she doesn't say who did that.
But surveillance tapes from the jail show her meeting Johnson earlier in the week as each woman visited their significant others.
And when Johnson was found in Curry-Demus' apartment she had the same clothes on as she wore at the jail which makes police believe Johnson may have been lured from the jail to the apartment.
Johnson's body was found Friday with her hands and feet bound with duct tape and her abdomen sliced open.
Johnson lived in McKeesport and people who knew her are angry.
"She didn't deserve that at all and I'm very upset about it, knowing her family and all, her background," said Eugene Grimball. "I'm very upset about it."
Johnson was described as sweet and naive, someone who did well in school.
A memorial fund has been set up for Johnson.
Donations can be made at any PNC branch.
