Police: Man Sexually Assaulted Teen

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Police have arrested a man from Mount Washington accused of having sex in public with a 14-year-old he met on the internet.

Pittsburgh Police say the 14-year-old placed an ad on Craigslist that attracted 38-year-old Mark Nernberg.   Police caught the two early Monday morning in a compromising situation.

"So the officer shined his spotlight on the individuals and then quickly, a young male moved quickly and then the older male he was fixing his clothes," Asst. Chief Maurita Bryant said.

Police say Nernberg communicated with the teen after reading his ad and knowing he was underage for two weeks. 

According to investigators, the two arranged to meet at the Home Depot in East Liberty.  From there they went to Highland Park after hours.  The teenager's parents were not aware he left the family home.

Nernberg is in the Allegheny County Jail charged with sexual abuse of children, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors.

Police believe this was their first encounter together.
