Local Leaders Join To Help Fight Foreclosures
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Community leaders from across Allegheny County will serve as so-called relief pitchers in the fight against foreclosure.
More than 100 civic leaders, including elected officials, church leaders, employers and others all gathered today to don their relief pitcher caps.
"In baseball, a relief pitcher is called in when things aren't going so well for the team," said Brian Hudson, the executive director of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.
The relief pitchers will use their role in the community to help sympathize, inform and educate the public about foreclosures. They will also be brought into the counseling process if appropriate.
During today's seminar, the relief pitchers were given advice on what to tell homeowners facing foreclosure.
They include telling homeowners that it's ok to ask for help, that they should respond to lenders promptly, that they should visit a free housing counselor, that they can find assistance and that they should act immediately.
Homeowners who need more information can visit
the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency's website. Additionally, for a list of counselors who can help homeowners experiencing delinquencies or who are at risk of foreclosure, visit HUD.gov/Offices.
