Wilkinsburg McDonald's Robbed, Clerk Assaulted

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) ― Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a fast-food restaurant this morning in Wilkinsburg.

The robber was able to break into the restaurant through duct work.

He surprised three employees, a mother and her two daughters, who had just entered the store and shut off the alarm.

One of the employees was assaulted by the masked gunman.

"He was pretty much pushing everybody into a certain area of the store and threw her to the ground," said Sgt. Daniel Cuiffi, of the Wilkinsburg Police Department.

He climbed through the air-conditioning ducts and then he climbed inside into the women's bathroom.

"He came in through the air-conditioning ducts and came in while they were disarming the alarms," said Cuiffi. "He took an undetermined amount of cash."

This is the second rooftop burglary in two weeks.

A suspect climbed into the Simmie's Seafood Restaurant & Lounge restaurant on Frankstown Avenue in Homewood.

In that case, the robber did not get cash, but caused about $3000 damage.

Wilkinsburg Police haven't yet talked to Pittsburgh robbery investigators.

However, they plan to soon.

Meanwhile, Wilkinsburg Police will look at the video taken during the hold up.

They believe the gunman may have removed his his mask and had his face on a surveillance camera.

They say the suspect was about 5' 8" tall, wearing a mask and was heavily clothed.

Police say they have a person of interest in this case.
