No Decision In Day 6 Of Wecht Trial Deliberations

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The federal corruption trial of Dr. Cyril Wecht, the former Allegheny County Coroner, moved into the sixth day of jury deliberations this morning.

But the jury has now ended for the day once again with no verdict on the 41 counts Wecht is facing.

KDKA's Harold Hayes reports that earlier this afternoon, the jury asked the court, if they can't reach a unanimous decision on any one count, does that mean they are a hung jury. The judge told them no it does not.

Federal prosecutors say Wecht used his former county coroner's staff for his personal benefit and to do work for his private practice.

Jury deliberations began last week.

Wecht's attorneys say the charges against him are minor administrative issues that don't rise to the level of federal crimes.

Deliberations will now resume next Tuesday.
