Jurors Continue Deliberations In Wecht Fraud Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Jurors are deliberating for a second day in the fraud trial of former Allegheny County Coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht.

They are considering a 41-count indictment. Wecht is facing several charges including mail and wire fraud.

KDKA's Harold Hayes reports that the jury has asked to see the actual federal statues that apply in the case. The attorneys are meeting to decide their response.

Prosecutors say Wecht used the coroner's staff for his personal benefit, to do work for his private practice.

But during closing arguments, the defense told the jury this case was a miscarriage of justice and that the use of county resources was minimal.

Jurors met for six hours on Tuesday without reaching a verdict.
