Officials Look For Answers After Waterfront Murder

WEST HOMESTEAD (KDKA) ― A 19-year-old man is dead after trying to stop a robber and police continue to search for his killer.

Brian Lee worked at the Damon's restaurant at the Waterfront in West Homestead.

Lee was killed early Sunday morning by a robber.

Police say Lee tried to shut the back door of the restaurant but the robber stuck his arm inside and shot him at close range.

He then took off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Lee's death is just the latest in what seems to be a rash of violence in that area.

Now, many local officials are very concerned.

"These things do happen," said Homestead Mayor Betty Esper. "The exclusive Fox Chapel area at the Waterworks had a lady kidnapped with her baby. How do you stop these things? If you have an idiot trying to get money without working, you are not going to stop him?"

Mayor Esper says the Waterfront is still a very safe place to go.

She will join other municipalities in asking mall management to add video surveillance cameras and beef up their security around those businesses that keep late hours.

Anyone with information about Lee's killer is urged to contact Allegheny County Police.
