Wash Co. Crash Victim Helped Rescuers Find Her
HICKORY (KDKA) ―
Injured and stuck in her car after an accident in Washington County, a local woman managed to use her cell phone to call for help and to help rescuers find her.
Debbie Durbin of Hickory was driving along McCarrell Road in Hickory when she lost control of her car and crashed over a hillside Tuesday evening.
Since the accident happened over a hill in a remote area covered with thick brush, Durbin's car was hidden from view; but, fortunately, she managed to get to her cell phone and call for help.
Durbin was able to help emergency crews find her by telling them when the sirens were getting closer to her.
She was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.
Today Durbin's brother-in-law, Rick Kosarik, told KDKA that she suffered broken vertebrae in the accident; but was still very lucky.
Not only did she narrowly miss a telephone pole; but Kosarik says that had the accident happened just one-mile down the road, Durbin would not have had any cell phone service.
