Auditor General Wagner Critical Of Port Authority
PITTSBURGH (AP) ―
Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner says the Port Authority of Allegheny County should overhaul its board of directors to better protect taxpayers.
Wagner wants the Pittsburgh-area transit agency to let the state appoint at least four members on its nine member board.
Wagner made the suggestion at a news conference Monday at which he again criticized the agency's spending and oversight.
Port Authority officials responded by saying the board is appointed locally according to state guidelines.
Wagner also says that some capital projects are poorly planned.
That includes the $435 million North Shore Connector, a project to extend light-rail service by tunneling under the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh.
