Vigil Held In Memory Of Slain Mother, Two Children

WASHINGTON, PA (KDKA) ― A community in Washington County held a candlelight vigil remembering a mother and her two children who were murdered last month.

A family member found the bodies of 22-year-old Ashley Guarino, 2-year-old Dreux and 10-month-old Orlando inside their Third Street home in Marianna in July.

About 100 people gathered outside the Washington County courthouse.

"Ashley was not only a good mother, she was a good person, a good friend and a wonderful daughter," Steve Maze, Ashley's father, said while holding back tears. "Orlando loved to give hugs. Dreux liked to tell you what she learned the next day."

"We need more people like her because she just said hi to anyone she met," Molly Bugaile, Ashley's friend and organizer of the vigil, said. "She was giving, she was caring and she's gone now."

Ashley's husband, 38-year-old Orlando Guarino, is being held on three homicide charges. The DA says he might face the death penalty when he goes on trial.

Maze disagrees.

"The death penalty would be too good for him," he said. "I'd like him to sit in jail and think about everyday what he did. He lost his freedom and he deserves to lose his freedom."
