Markers Stolen From Local Veterans' Graves

SALTSBURG (KDKA) ― Some people in Indiana County are outraged after someone stole markers off of veterans' graves.

It happened at the Edgewood Cemetery just outside Saltsburg.

The markers were discovered missing this weekend when officials were out getting graves ready for the Memorial Day holiday.

Ninety were found to be missing in all.

The American Legion works to make sure each veteran's grave has a marker and flag for the Memorial Day weekend.

They say this is the ultimate act of disrespect on a day that's meant to honor those who served our country.

Officials say the person who took the markers probably planned to sell them for scrap metal.

Counties across the area have been changing the material these markers are made out of in an effort to discourage people from stealing them.

Officials are hoping that when the person who stole the markers goes to sell them, the scrap yard will turn them in to police.
