Versailles Police Department May Be Disbanded

VERSAILLES (KDKA) ― A local borough is struggling in the tough economy.

Officials in Versailles passed a budget for next year with no money to keep the police department open.

The budget included $145,000 earmarked for police but the town's mayor says that money is for out-sourcing.

McKeesport and White Oak sent contract proposals to patrol Versailles with an estimated cost of $145,000 a year.

So far, no final decision has been made on the future of the police force.

The issue goes to arbitration later this month.
