Vandergrift Window Co. Closes, Employees Shocked

VANDERGRIFT (KDKA) ― Workers at Kensington Windows in Vandergrift say they are losing their jobs without notice.

A spokesperson for IUE-CWA Local 643, which represents the workers, said employees got a letter yesterday instructing them not to come to work today.

The letter told employees their health benefits would cease immediately and gave them instructions to sign-up for unemployment.

Union officials say about 150 people work at the plant.

Kensington Windows is owned by Jancor Company out of Ohio.

Jancor's president has not returned calls from KDKA.

His secretary says workers were told the plant would be closed today and they would get further information when it became available.

A letter posted on the door at Kensington Windows reads: "Kensington Windows regrets that this action is necessary.  Kensington has been attempting to obtain financing to permit it to continue operations, but was unable to do so and has been informed that its secured lenders have decided to terminate funding to the company immediately. It is for this reason that Kensington must take this action immediately and is unable to provide greater advance notice of it."

Stay with KDKA for more details.
