Arrest Made In Fatal Uptown Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Police have made an arrest in connection with an overnight murder in the city's Uptown neighborhood.

Police were called to Fifth Avenue and Stevenson Street just before 12:30 a.m.

Authorities have identified the victim as 27-year-old Donell Jones Jr., of Homewood. The Medical Examiner says he died from gunshot wounds to the chest and lower extremity.

A Duquesne University police officer was patrolling the 1300 block of Watson Street when he observed a male, later identified as 27 year-old Jonathan Brown, firing a gun and running down Watson towards Pride.

The officer pursued Brown and was able to detain him in a wooded area on Our Way.

Brown was taken into police custody upon the arrival of Pittsburgh Police.

A stolen firearm, which was discarded by Brown, was later recovered.

Brown is charged with criminal homicide, carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest.
