Uniontown Family Honors Loved One With Blood Drive

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) ― A father in Uniontown is honoring the memory of his daughter in a way that will help others in need.

Abby Check, 19, died last month after she wrecked her car on Route 43 in Georges Township. She was trying to avoid hitting a deer, according to Gary Check, her father.

She was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, V. Va., in critical condition, but she succumbed to her injuries on April 9.

While undergoing treatment, Check received over 300 units of blood.

The Check family wants to encourage the public to donate blood. With the help of the American Red Cross, the family is holding a blood drive at Uniontown Area High School on Friday, May 23, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
