Ornament From USS Pennsylvania Comes Back To Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A piece of history returned to Pittsburgh today.

The large ornament, weighing in at more than 2,000 pounds and standing eight feet tall, was at one time mounted on the bow of the Navy's USS Pennsylvania.

It was part of the Great White Fleet commissioned when Theodore Roosevelt was the President of the United States.

For years, it's been stored in a warehouse, but it was moved to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum where it will be put on display in a garden.

"We felt that Soldiers and Sailors was the best place for this, and over the years we tried to have it placed here and finally succeeded," said Will Rouleau, a former Carnegie Mellon University professor.
