Driver In Pa. Turnpike Crash Arraigned In Court

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The driver accused in a fatal accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike appeared in court this morning for arraignment.

Investigators say Shiva Lal Acharya, of Chicago, struck and killed a motorcyclist near the Warrendale interchange early Thursday morning.

The victim was a 46-year-old man from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Acharya, an out-of-state doctor, was reportedly on his way to a job interview in Philadelphia when the accident happened.

Police say Acharya didn't stop after hitting the motorcycle.

He fled his vehicle on foot and after an extensive search, officers found him in the woods a few hours later.

He's facing multiple counts including homicide by vehicle.
