Tightrope Walker Makes It Across Allegheny River

DOWNTOWN (KDKA) ― One of the biggest attractions this year at the Three Rivers Regatta happened out of the water.

More specifically – it happened about 200 feet above the Allegheny River.

Nik Wallenda walked across the 1,000 foot long cable about a nickel in diameter with a 50-pound balancing pole while hundreds watched him from below on the Roberto Clemente Bridge.

The walk started shortly after 7 p.m. and lasted about 25 minutes.

It was the longest walk of Wallenda's career and the only one done entirely above the water.

He says he's far from finished. In fact, he plans to cross the Grand Canyon in September.
