Sanctuary Owner To Stand Trial On Cruelty Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― An Allegheny County woman has been ordered to stand trial on animal cruelty charges after authorities said they found hundreds of dead, sick and dying cats on her property.

Tiger Ranch owner 45-year-old Linda Bruno, of Frazer Township, is accused of failing to provide adequate care.

She has pleaded not guilty to nearly 600 summary and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.

Investigators say they found the cats in deplorable conditions during a March raid at Tiger Ranch near Tarentum.

Bruno, however, told KDKA that Tiger Ranch is a place where feral and stray cats are spared from death.  "We take in cats that others will not take. I am giving these cats a chance that they otherwise wouldn't have."

Gibsonia District Judge Suzanne Blaschak ordered Bruno to stand trial Tuesday at a preliminary hearing.

A humane society agent testified that Bruno's records indicate she took in nearly 6,500 cats in 2007 - almost 5,000 more than she estimated.
