PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― It's that time of year, tents and exhibits are already set up, ready for Friday's start of the "Three Rivers Arts Festival" in downtown Pittsburgh.

"There's plenty to do. We have over 500 artists, 100 events in over 20 different venues," said Veronica Corpuz, of The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

But this year, they're will be a few firsts, like for the first time in its 50 year history the event has a different organizer The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

"This is not only the 50th anniversary of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, it's the 25th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and our way of saying thank you to the community for supporting this great community asset," said Corpuz.

Another first includes vendors preparing for a shortened event. The festival has been reduced from the usual 17 days to only 10 days due to both the economic times and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's short five month planning period.

"We're still packing in a lot of great quality programming from headlining acts on the Dollar Bank Main Stage such as Shemekia Copeland, The Whalers. We have wonderful jazz acts as well as the "Zany Umbrella Circus" they will be performing right in the heart of the Cultural District," added Corpuz.

This is also the first time vendors will be in the newly-renovated Point State Park.

"This is where it should have always been. And now they've made it so much easier for us. It's delightful. It's just so much fun to be back where we started," said vendor Tina Koutoufaris.
