Texts Reveal Murder Suspect's Dialogue With Teen

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A series of text messages between a man accused of fatally stabbing his 16-year-old girlfriend two years ago help paint the picture of their relationship on the day of the murder.

John Mullarkey is on trial for killing Demi Cuccia. Prosecutors say he stabbed the Gateway High School cheerleader 16 times after an argument outside her Monroeville home on August 15, 2007, then slashed his own throat.

While the defense has claimed that Accutane, the acne drug that Mullarkey had been taking prior to the murder, may have influenced his actions, prosecutors say Mullarkey was a disgruntled boyfriend who was about to get dumped.

In court yesterday, they presented a number of text messages between Mullarkey and Cuccia in the hours leading up to the stabbing:

AUGUST 15, 2007:

  • 12:03am, John to Demi:  "Call me right now. I quit my job..."
  • 1:01am, John to Demi:  "Don't let this go. I know we had bad times and good and everyone has that. We had a lil more bad. That just means we have a lot of good to do."
  • 1:03am, John to Demi:  "Wow. You know you love me and can't live without me."
  • 12:10pm, John to Demi:  "Please call me and you lied to me.."
  • 12:22pm, John to Demi:  "Call me baby please. I'll stop."
  • 12:46pm, John to Demi:  "Please just call me. That's all I ask."
  • 1:43pm, John to Demi:  "Thanks for ignoring me. Love you too."
  • 2:30pm, John to Demi:  "Everything is more important than the guy you love"
  • 2:32pm, John to Demi:  "Don't bother calling. You already showed me how you feel."
  • 2:57pm, John to Demi:  "Baby I'm sorry"
  • 3:00pm, John to Demi:  "I just want it to be good or done. I can't stay like this."
  • 3:01pm, Demi to John:  "John I'm sorry"
  • 3:02pm, John to Demi:  "Don't be sorry"
  • 3:04pm, Demi to John:  "I am. I'm mean to you"
  • 3:56pm, 6 minute phone call between two
  • 4:02pm, 4 minute phone call between two
  • 4:08pm, Demi to John:  "I can't argue"
  • 4:09pm, 26 minute phone call between two
  • 4:44pm, John to Demi:  "Baby see me tonight to fix things"
  • 5:01pm, Demi to John:  "I'll see you"
  • 5:02pm, John to Demi:  "Ok I promise you a good time fo sho"
  • 5:03pm, John to Demi:  "What is wrong with you now?"
  • 5:05pm, Demi to John:  "NOTHING IS WRONG. STOP WORRYING"
  • 5:40pm, 3 minute phone call between two
  • 5:55pm, John to Demi:  "Should I leave now?"
  • 5:55pm, Demi to John:  "Yeah" (last message from Demi)
  • 5:56pm, John to Demi:  "All right. I'm leaving"
Investigators believe the stabbing and suicide attempt occurred some time after 6:00pm.

At 6:21pm, Mullarkey sent a text message to his mother saying: "I stabbed myself at Demi's. I love you."

Testimony continues today.
