Man Accused of Punching Principal To Stand Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A local man who's accused of punching an elementary school principal and a teacher's assistant while trying to take his seven-year-old-son out of school early is now facing more serious charges.

During a preliminary hearing for Taru Davis today, officials upgraded the charges against him to felony 1 aggravated assault.

Davis allegedly punched Morrow Elementary School Principal Dr. Annette Scott Piper in the face as well as hitting a female assistant last week.

According to police, Davis showed up at the school in Brighton Heights to take his 7-year-old son out of school early.

In court today, the principal testified that she confronted Davis after he started taking photographs inside the school of the early dismissal list and started walking towards his child's classroom.

When the principal told him he couldn't go into the classroom, Piper testified that he began to punch her repeatedly in the face. According to the principal's testimony, Davis then picked her up, slammed her to the ground and continued to punch her.

A short time later, a teacher's assistant, Betty Huguley, approached Davis and asked him to stop.

Huguley testified today that Davis then began to punch her. When asked how many times she was hit, Huguley broke down saying she couldn't recall.

After the attacks, officials say Davis took off; but police later caught up with him.

Davis will stand trial for the assaults.
