Judge Refuses To Lower Bond For Ex-Teacher's Aide
(KDKA)
A former teacher's aide, accused of inappropriate behavior with several students, learned at a hearing this morning that she will stay in jail for now.
Abbiejane Swogger, 34, was first arrested in February after police say she was found at the Clarion Hotel in New Kensington with a group of teens. Police say they also discovered drugs, empty beer cans and condoms in a room rented in her name.
She is facing several charges in that incident. But since that time new charges have been filed including indecent assault, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children and sex with a minor.
Police say several other teens have told police about inappropriate incidents involving Swogger.
Today, a judge refused a request by Swogger's attorney to lower her bond, and set it at $150,000.
"It's an exorbitant bond under the circumstances. This girl is no threat to anybody," said Swogger's attorney, Duke George. "It's just a sad, sad scenario that the bond is this high."
Swogger is being held in the Westmoreland County Jail.
