Swissvale Residents Protest After Taser Incident

SWISSVALE (KDKA) ― About 20 protestors chanting, "Prosecute the cops, the killing must stop," tonight marched from Edgewood Town Center to the Swissvale Borough Building, demanding that several Swissvale police officers involved in a tasing incident early Tuesday morning be suspended, pending the outcome of at least two investigations.

Andre Thomas, 37, died at UPMC Braddock Hospital early Tuesday morning not long after a Swissvale policeman used a taser gun on him, because he was allegedly acting erratically, and screaming.

Swissvale Borough officials say they can't comment on the case because of probes being conducted by County Police and the District Attorney.

A Swissvale woman who witnessed the incident told council members tonight that she never saw Thomas acting crazy.

"He was not trying to break in our houses, he was trying to get to our houses for help, because he said somebody was trying to kill him," Geri Jones said.

Lee Davis, Thomas' first cousin, said, "I don't know how a man looking for help at the end of the night ends up dead - that's just crazy."

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has not determined the manner or cause of death for Thomas.
