Police Chase Suspect Escapes UPMC Mercy Hospital

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The suspect in a police chase that ended in a crash on the South Side has escaped from UPMC Mercy Hospital.

The chase started in West Homestead when a Munhall police officer noticed an assault rifle in the suspect's dark SUV.

The suspected ended up crashing into a utility pole in the parking lot of an ice cream shop when he turned onto Becks Run Road.

Injured and bleeding, he took off running with the gun in his hand. He tossed the gun over a fence before police tased him.

The man, who is from Munhall, fled the hospital at about 9 p.m.

He is described as a black male, 6' tall, 210 pounds with a lot of tattoos.

His right eye is injured and he has short cropped hair.

He was last seen wearing a hospital gown.
