After 15 Years, Arnold Murder Remains Unsolved
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
It's been exactly 15 years since 74-year-old Stephanie Coyle was found murdered in her home in Arnold, Westmoreland County.
As the anniversary of her death approaches on Wednesday, her son, Dan Coyle, has been going around several neighborhoods in the city of Arnold, putting up posters, offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
Dan said he made a promise to his mother after she died that he would try to do everything possible to help police solve the crime.
It was July 16, 1993 when the elderly woman's body was found, in her apartment, upstairs from a garage. She died of multiple stab wounds to the back of the neck and, she also had some unusual cuts on her back, in the shape of a circle, leading to speculation that it could be a satanic ritual-type crime.
Police have ruled nothing out. They have no suspects, or motive. It did not appear to be a robbery.
As he was putting reward posters up, Coyle told KDKA-TV he was optimistic that authorities would eventually solve the crime, adding that he recently got a phone call from a friend with some new information that may end up being important tip in the on-going investigation.
