Onorato Pays Off Super Bowl Bet
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Even though the Steelers beat the Cardinals in the Super Bowl, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato is paying off on a bet he made with leaders in Phoenix.
Today, he packed up his side of the wager.
It includes $1,500 worth of merchandise from Dick's Sporting Goods, five dozen Steelers Smiley Cookies from Eat 'N Park, lemonade from Heart and Soul Foods, something from the Andy Warhol Museum and a case of Italian sausage from Ricci's Italian Sausage.
"Talking with my counterpart in Maricopa County in Arizona, we decided since it's going to a good cause, regardless of who won this race, we decided we were gonna ship it over there. They were gonna ship their gifts to us," said Onorato.
All of the donations are going to Boys and Girls Clubs, kitchen pantries and other charities. FedEx is helping Onorato with his Phoenix area shipment.
"Send some of our ethnic food out west and there's a lot of former Pittsburghers and fans of the Steelers nation I'm sure would appreciate having this come out there," added Onorato.
Officials in Maricopa County will send food and other items to the Pittsburgh region, which will also go toward Allegheny County charities.
Onorato says he and officials from Maricopa County had decided before the game started that regardless of who won both counties would honor the bet.
