Rains, Flooding Damage Vehicles In Squirrel Hill

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A number of drivers in Squirrel Hill found themselves stranded along Forbes Avenue Wednesday night when the severe storms caused water to come rushing up around their cars.

Today, those people spent much of the morning trying to salvage what they could.

Roommates Michael Popovich and Bill Hazy spent Thursday morning cleaning out their cars.

"It's pretty frustrating for me because first of all, it's a pretty big pain just cleaning it all out, getting all the sticks, mud, dirt and debris out of there

Also, because I'm gonna have to miss work today," said Hazy.

His Nissan Altima was one of many cars that floated around in the nearly four inches worth of rain that fell in the Pittsburgh area.

Even though the roommates were hit pretty hard they say they are still looking at the brighter side of things.

"It wasn't any worse. Nobody got hurt. It looks like I can deal with this, I can clean it up," said Popovich.

Meanwhile, also in the aftermath of the storms, David Harel's backyard wall now looks more like an excavation site. He says he's concerned because more rain is in the forecast.

"Now, we are working with the insurance company to try and fix this before the next rains," said Harel.

That was the concern of many of the residents in Squirrel Hill, but they say they will continue the clean-up process regardless of what's up next for the weather.
