Teen Accused Of Plotting To Kill Family

SOUTH FAYETTE TWP. (KDKA) ― Police have charged a local teenager in an apparent plot to kill his entire family.

Christopher Janney, 16, of McDonald, is charged as an adult.

Police say they first learned of the plot last Saturday, when they were called to the family's home on Dutch Hill Road.  According to court documents, Janney's mother reported her son missing and gave police six clear bottles containing a white powdery substance that smelled like chlorine.

The Allegheny County Bomb Squad later determined those bottles were chlorine compression bombs.

They had been placed in bedrooms throughout the home. Janney's mother also told police her son had been inside his grandfather's home next door.

She told police the grandfather took a sack away from Christopher that contained bottles of rubbing alcohol.

Police say Janney discussed his plot with an accomplice on his MySpace page, including posting questions about how to mix chemicals.

Janney is a junior at South Fayette High School.

Supt. Dr. Linda Hippert told KDKA Janney is on the soccer team and never had any problems in school.

However, she did acknowledge that as a precaution, police swept the school auditorium this past weekend prior to a Homecoming dance.

They did not find anything.

Janney is charged with five counts of criminal attempt, and one count each of criminal conspiracy and recklessly endangering another person.

He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

South Fayette Township police have not said whether they have charged the alleged accomplice.
