PennDOT Lowers Speed Limit, Urges Caution On Roads
Port Authority Buses Temporarily Stop Service
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Because of the heavy snow, PennDOT is asking drivers to stay off the roads, if possible.
Officials have temporarily lowered the speed limit to 45mph on Interstate 79 in both directions, Parkways West and East in both directions and the Parkway North southbound in Allegheny County.
Several area roads and highways have been closed because of weather-related accidents.
The Parkway West is closed inbound just past the Carnegie on-ramp after several vehicles were involved in a crash.
Traffic is also restricted outbound between the Fort Pitt Tunnel and the Parkway East Center off-ramp.
The right lane of the outbound side of the Parkway North is closed because of another multi-vehicle crash near the McKnight Road exit.
Also, several crashes have caused Route 19 to close in both directions between Babcock Boulevard and McKnight Road.
Interstate 79 is closed in both directions south of Bridgeville interchange because of fallen utility lines on the road.
The Parkway East outbound is restricted near the Forest Hills exit.
Ross Township Police report that parts of McKnight Road and parts of Seibert Road are now closed as well.
PennDOT road crews are working throughout the night to keep the roads passable, but drivers are being urged to drive slowly and use caution.
Meantime, the Port Authority has halted service temporarily because of poor road conditions.
