911: Suspect Jumped Into River To Elude Police

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) ― Emergency dispatchers in Allegheny County say a man suspected of stealing a vehicle apparently jumped into the Allegheny River in an attempt to elude police.

Police were reportedly chasing a suspect believed to have stolen a vehicle when the man apparently thought he could get away by jumping into the river.

River rescue crews began searching the area near Butler Street in Sharpsburg around noon.

Shortly before 12:30pm, NewsChopper 2 flew over the scene where officials were apparently taking a suspect into custody.
