Driver In Fatal Ambulance Crash Pleads Guilty
(KDKA)
An ambulance driver, accused in an accident that claimed the lives of two people in Marshall Township, is facing one to two years behind bars under a plea agreement.
Shanea Climo, of Evans City, today pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and driving under the influence in the 2007 accident.
Climo, who was hospitalized as a result of the crash, worked the overnight shift for the Cranberry Volunteer Ambulance Corporation.
Authorities say she was driving southbound on Route 19 after 2 a.m. when the ambulance collided with a Chevy Cavalier driven by Douglas Stitt, of Mercer.
Stitt and his passenger, Phillip Bacon, of Sharpsville, were killed. Both of their families were in court today.
"How would anyone feel about that? I don't think some of the rules are right. It's not my place to call it. I would have liked to see her spend more time, I'm not going to deny that, but I also
I'm understanding that she could have had no time," said Bacon's mother, Deborah. "People have done worse things and have had house arrests. And that would have been, to me, worse.
Investigators say they determined that Climo's blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, she was driving over the posted speed limit and while her emergency lights were on, the siren was activated too late.
An Allegheny County Jail will now review the plea agreement before Climo is sentenced.
