Settlers Ridge Opens With Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

ROBINSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― Over the last 20 years, Robinson Township has changed dramatically with shopping centers, restaurants and other retail complexes seemingly popping up everywhere.

And with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, the Settlers Ridge development officially opened to excited shoppers this morning.

"It is an exciting and historic day as we officially mark the opening of Settlers Ridge," said Mark Mancuso, of CBL & Associates.

A year and a half of construction effort led to the grand opening that included bands, an honor guard as well as a lot of economic aspirations.

"This center is expected to provide approximately 1,500 jobs and produce in excess of $200 million annually in retail sales," said Mancuso.

Anchor stores are to include the Market District store, a movie theater, several restaurants and at least 30 other specialty stores.

"We are proud to announce phase one of Settlers Ridge is 94 percent leased and committed," Mancuso added.

While above the ground is a shopper's haven, Mancuso also talked about what is below the Settlers Ridge development.

"You are actually standing on a reclaimed coal mine," he said. "This land has been mined for decades."

Meanwhile, shoppers are excited about the opening.

"We have a new place to shop," said shopper Jane Palon. "A lot of jobs came into the area. My sister works at the Giant Eagle [Market District]. Our son works at the cinema; so, there's a lot of great opportunities brought to the township, plus the outlying areas."

CBL developers say they anticipate phase one to be completely up and occupied by the end of spring of 2010.
