Seneca Valley Teachers, District Make Progress

Teachers' Strike Will Continue

Both Sides To Meet Again On Monday

Negotiators for Seneca Valley teachers and the district made progress during a meeting with a state mediator, but for now, the strike is still on.

Both sides sat down at the state office building in downtown Pittsburgh this afternoon for the first time since the strike began.

According to the mediator, the parties have agreed on two open issues and agreed in concept on seven others.  Both sides are scheduled to meet again on Monday.

The strike has canceled classes for nearly 7,600 students.  The major sticking point is salaries.  The district is offering an average 4 percent per year annual increase for a 5-year deal, but the teachers want 6 percent.
