McCain To Attend Flight 93 Memorial Service In Pa.
PITTSBURGH (AP) ―
Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain will attend a Sept.11 memorial service at the western Pennsylvania crash site of Flight 93.
McCain's regional spokesman Paul Lindsay confirmed via e-mail that McCain will attend on Thursday the annual ceremony held at the Flight 93 temporary memorial in Shanksville. It is unclear if McCain will speak at the event.
Forty passengers and crew were killed when Flight 93 came crashing down into a reclaimed minefield, about 70 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
It is believed the aircraft crashed after passengers stormed the cockpit, preventing the hijackers from reaching their initial target, Washington, D.C. Flight 93 was the fourth hijacked aircraft to crash on Sept. 11, 2001.
